This policy explains what information Learn with BYA (“we”, “us”) collects when you use the platform, how we use it, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run the platform:

Account details. When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture.
YouTube subscription status. With your permission (the youtube.readonly scope), we check whether you’re subscribed to our channel to unlock the free tier. We read subscription status only — we do not access your videos, watch history, or post on your behalf.
Profile & learning data. Your role, learning goal, lesson progress, and saved items.
AI conversations. Messages you send to the AI chat and AI call, and its replies, so conversations persist and improve your experience.
Booking requests. Topics, times, and notes for sessions you request with the real Babagana.
Payment information. If and when paid plans are offered, payments are processed by Paystack. We receive a transaction reference and status — we never see or store your card details.
Technical data. Standard server logs (e.g. IP address, browser type) generated when you use the site.

2. How we use your information

To authenticate you and keep you signed in.
To deliver lessons, track progress, and personalize the AI to your goals.
To verify the free-tier YouTube subscribe requirement.
To process bookings and (where enabled) subscription payments.
To send transactional emails such as booking confirmations and receipts.
To secure the service, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

3. Service providers we share data with

We rely on a small set of trusted processors. Your data is shared with them only to provide the service:

Supabase — authentication and database (your account, progress, conversations, and bookings).
Google / YouTube — sign-in and subscription verification.
OpenRouter (and the underlying AI model providers) — to generate AI chat and call responses. Your messages are sent to these providers to produce replies.
Paystack — payment processing for paid plans, where enabled.
Resend — delivery of transactional email.
Our hosting provider — to serve the application.

Some of these providers operate outside your country, so your data may be processed internationally under their own safeguards.

4. Cookies & sessions

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in. See our Cookie Policy for details. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

5. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. You can ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time (see “Your rights”). Some records may be retained where required for legal, accounting, or security reasons.

6. Your rights

You can:

Access and update your profile details from your account page.
Request a copy of your data, or request correction or deletion.
Withdraw the YouTube permission at any time via your Google Account settings.

7. Security

We use industry-standard measures — encrypted connections and access controls — to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to safeguard your information and respond promptly to any issues.

8. Children’s privacy

The platform is intended for educators and adult learners. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice.
